Highlights from the International Sweet Adeline’s Competition in Nashville

October 26th, 2009 by dbrown

Sweet Adelines International 63rd Annual Convention and Competition in Nashville was a real hoot!   Our new Queens of Harmony  is the quartet Zing!   The Mic-testers for the chorus semi-finals was Sciota Valley Chorus who won the Harmony Classic Competition…just take a look at Jean Ohtola, Deb Ferenc and Claire Greene’s new medals.  They were flying high!!

Rising Star Competition winner was Vogue Quartet.  The Treble Makers Quartet from Solon nailed 14th place, only 4 points out of 13th.

A Guinness World Record was set for the world’s largest singing lesson with 6,651 participating.

Rich-Tone Chorus won the chorus contest with 3,054 points, a margin of only 39 points over Lions Gate Chorus.  Our sister chorus Sounds of Pittsburgh landed in 24th place with a total score of 1,120.  The 80 ladies on stage sang their hearts out with “My Foolish Heart” and “Alabamy Bound”.   What fun they had!

It was an honor to see our own Jean Flinn in the judge’s pit, judging the quartet contest…what a job!  Yah-hoo!!.

For those of you who are not aware…our own GCC Charter Member BARB TAME was honored by SAI for her 50 year membership.  It was great to see her name scroll on the big screen and to see her fellow 50 year members on stage, including GCC Charter member, Lee Balaguer-Davison.

Congratulations to all who participated.  And now….SEATTLE HERE WE COME!!!
