Local Greater Cleveland Chorus Takes Home First Place

 

[Cleveland, Ohio May 18, 2009] - The Greater Cleveland Chorus captured first place at the regional Sweet Adelines International chorus competition held Saturday May 16th at Cleveland Music Hall in Cleveland, Ohio]. As regional champions they will advance to international competition, which will take place during November, 2010 in Seattle, Washington]; and will compete against more than 30 of the top regional winners of Sweet Adelines International choruses from around the world.

 

Leading the Greater Cleveland Chorus to victory was Master Director Jean Flinn from Cuyahoga Falls.   Flinn has directed the Greater Cleveland Chorus for more than 15 years and this is their 5th first place finish under her direction. This year 61 of the 79 -member chorus performed onstage and wowed the judges and audience with its creative and musical entertainment package.

 

The Greater Cleveland chorus is one of 16 Sweet Adelines International choruses that participated in the Acappela Rocks On regional competition. These choruses represent Region 17 in Lake Erie area, which includes portions of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Their total score of 615 exceeded their competitors, placing them at number one in their region and offering them the extraordinary opportunity to compete for the International gold.

 

The Greater Cleveland Chorus members range in age from early 20’s to 80’s, who all share a love for music and singing four-part barbershop harmony.
